LOW MOOR — The Alleghany Highlands YMCA will celebrate Alleghany Highlands Public Schools Week Sept. 20-26, inviting students, families and employees to experience the YMCA and discover the many ways it can support a healthy, active lifestyle.
The YMCA has been a longstanding partner of Alleghany Highlands Public Schools, working alongside the school division, its employees and families to support the health and well-being of local students and the Alleghany Highlands community.
That partnership was recently recognized by the Alleghany Highlands School Board, which honored the YMCA with its Community Champions for Schools Award. The school board created the award to recognize local individuals and organizations that demonstrate strong support for students, schools and families throughout the Highlands.
AHPS Public Schools Week at the Y builds on that partnership, giving AHPS students, families and employees an opportunity to connect with the YMCA, explore its facilities and experience the programs available to them.
The week is made possible through the generous sponsorship of The Alleghany Foundation, whose continued support helps create opportunities for health, wellness and connection throughout the Alleghany Highlands.
Throughout the week, AHPS students, families and faculty are invited to visit the YMCA, participate in activities and learn more about the resources available to help individuals and families make healthy choices part of their everyday lives.
Visitors can check out the YMCA’s newly renovated Wellness Center and swimming pool, walk or exercise on the indoor walking track, enjoy the outdoor walking path, spend time in the gymnasium and explore a schedule featuring more than 30 group fitness classes each week.
“We’re grateful for the opportunity to partner with the YMCA and The Alleghany Foundation to give our students, families and employees an opportunity to experience all that the YMCA has to offer,” said AHPS Superintendent Kim Halterman. “Healthy schools are part of a healthy community, and opportunities like this encourage our employees, students and families to be active, connect with others and make wellness part of their everyday lives.”
For the safety and security of all YMCA members and guests, visitors during AHPS Week must complete a guest form upon arrival. Youth ages 12 and under must have a responsible adult age 18 or older present with them in the building.
“We want to invite our entire AHPS community to come through our doors, take a look around and make themselves at home,” said Alleghany Highlands YMCA CEO Bobbie Wagner. “Come see the renovations. Try a class. Take a walk. Get in the pool. Shoot some hoops. Most importantly, come discover how the YMCA can be part of a healthier, stronger Alleghany Highlands.”
